Safeguarding

At Nancledra School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring that every pupil feels safe, valued, and supported, and we work tirelessly to create an environment where children can learn and thrive free from harm.

We follow all statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Working Together to Safeguard Children, and we maintain robust policies and procedures to protect pupils from all forms of abuse, neglect, and harm. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect all staff, governors, volunteers, and visitors to uphold our high standards of care and vigilance.

Our safeguarding practice includes:

·       Maintaining a safe and secure learning environment where children’s wellbeing is prioritised at all times.

·       Identifying concerns early and taking prompt, appropriate action to protect children from harm.

·       Working in partnership with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for every child.

·       Ensuring all staff and volunteers receive regular, up‑to‑date safeguarding and child protection training, including training on recognising risks, responding to concerns, online safety, and the Prevent duty.

·       Promoting a culture of openness and trust, where children know they can talk to adults if they feel worried or unsafe.

·       Following safer recruitment procedures to ensure that all adults working with our pupils are suitable and appropriately vetted.

When we have concerns about a child’s welfare, we will always seek to work collaboratively with parents and carers. However, there may be occasions when we need to share information or make a referral to safeguarding agencies without parental consent if we believe that doing so is necessary to protect a child.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent strategy, helping to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism as part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities.

If you have concerns about a child, you can contact the Cornwall Multi‑Agency Referral Unit (MARU) on 0300 1231 116, or 01208 251300 out of hours, or email multiagencyreferralunit@cornwall.gov.uk.
