Personal Development

Personal Development at Nancledra is woven through every aspect of school life. It brings together PSHE, RSHE, Religious Education, History, British Values, SMSC, character development, and the protected characteristics to ensure that every child grows into a confident, thoughtful, and responsible young person.

Our school vision places great importance on nurturing independent, curious learners who are well prepared to make a positive contribution to society. This vision underpins all of our Personal Development work and shapes the experiences we offer our pupils.

Through our carefully planned curriculum and wider opportunities, we aim to:

·       Help children understand themselves and others, developing empathy, respect, and emotional literacy.

·       Build character through resilience, teamwork, responsibility, and a strong sense of right and wrong.

·       Promote equality and inclusion by teaching pupils about the protected characteristics and celebrating diversity.

·       Encourage pupils to recognise their role within the local, national, and global community.

·       Develop children’s understanding of healthy relationships, physical and mental wellbeing, and how to stay safe—both in the real world and online.

·       Provide meaningful opportunities for leadership, pupil voice, and active citizenship.

·       Foster an appreciation of British Values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect.

·       Enrich learning through cultural experiences, visits, visitors, outdoor learning, and engagement with the wider community.

Personal Development at Nancledra is not limited to lessons. It is reflected in our assemblies, our behaviour culture, our enrichment activities, and the way we encourage children to take pride in themselves and their school. We want every child to leave Nancledra with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to thrive in the next stage of their education and beyond.
